The new 2023 Volkswagen ID.5 And ID.5 GTX coupe-SUV will be available to order early next year, in Pro, Pro Performance, or sporty GTX guises. Volkswagen is expanding its electric offering with the addition of the ID.5, an SUV Coupe version of the existing ID.4 with a more relaxed roofline and rear.

A sibling model of the similarly shaped Audi Q4 E-Tron Sportback and Skoda Enyaq Coupé iV, the compact ID.5 will initially be sold in Europe, but VW has hinted that other markets may follow later. However, there are currently no plans to offer it in the United States.
New Shape and Styling
The ID.5 retains many of the same styling details that make the ID.4 so attractive and then adds a sporty sloping roofline to top it off.
The difference in the profile isn’t dramatic enough to reduce functionality – think of a BMW X5 vs. X6 and a VW Atlas vs. an Atlas Cross Sport somewhere in between – but it’s enough to give it that touch of extra style.
To further distinguish it from ID.4, ID.5 obtains part of its identity in the form of unique characteristics.
Since it’s supposed to be the sportier coupe equivalent of the ID.4, so is the base ID. 5 has a few cues borrowed from sportier VW models, while the ID.5 GTX receives an equally muscular design as the ID .4 GTX.
In addition, every trim of the ID.5 sees its sloping roofline transform into a functional rear spoiler.
Volkswagen ID.5 GTX
You are probably familiar with Volkswagen’s GTI badge, used on high-performance versions of the Golf, come on! and Polo.
A new GTX badge was created for the brand’s electric cars, which started with the ID.4. The ID.5 GTX has a sportier body kit than the standard model, including a new front bumper and rear diffuser. The GTX also has lowered suspension and upgraded brakes, while dynamic chassis control is optional.

Range, Charging, and Performance
Three models make up the ID.5 range: Pro, Pro Performance, and the sporty GTX version. Pro gets a 172 hp electric motor and a time of 10.4 seconds at 062 mph, while Pro Performance increases those numbers to 201 hp and 8.4 seconds. Both are rear-wheel drives and will reach a top speed of 99 mph.
The sleek body of the ID.5 means it’s more efficient than the ID.4, so the range is slightly higher. The Pro and Pro Performance models offer up to 323 miles from a full charge, while the mighty GTX also officially covers 304 miles.
While the ID.4 can charge up to 120 kW, the ID.5 accepts up to 135 kW of power, which means that charging to 80% with a fast charger only takes 26 minutes, compared to 35 minutes for ID 4. VW ID. models will soon be able to charge at a higher rate as the brand rolls out an update.

2022 Volkswagen ID.5 GTX Interior and Boot Size
Given that the ID.5 is fundamentally a sleeker version of the ID.4, it’s no surprise that most of the interior parts are shared between the two cars.
There is a six-inch driver’s display and a 12-inch touchscreen for infotainment. The car’s platform and the absence of a transmission tunnel make it more spacious than a Volkswagen Tiguan. Animal products were not used for any of the interiors.
The 549-liter boot is very generous, especially as it’s six liters more than the boxier ID.4 when measured to the parcel shelf.

Sales Expected To Start Early 2022
Nothing has been announced yet regarding the price or release date of the ID.5, but it is expected to go on sale across Europe in the first quarter of 2022.
With the starting price for each of its trim levels slightly above their ID.4 counterparts. As for the United State, a spokesperson for VW of America confirmed that the company has no plans to offer the ID.5 in the United States.
