Tata Sierra EV

The Tata Sierra is finally getting the green signal for production, although there is a problem. According to the ACI, the new Sierra will be Tata Motors’ very first product based on the manufacturer’s all-new Sigma “Born Electric” platform, which is the platform dedicated exclusively to electric vehicles.

Unlike the EV versions of the Nexon and the Tigor, which are based on the platforms of their ICE versions, Sierra’s Sigma platform will be a heavily redesigned version of the Nexon’s X4 platform or the ALFA platform of the Altroz.

Tata Sierra EV Launch Date

The expected launch date of the Tata Sierra EV is 2023.

Tata Sierra EV Features

  • LED Headlamps And Tail Lamps
  • Black Cladding Along Its Bottom Edge
  • Dual-Tone Alloy Wheels

This new Sigma platform will not support IC motors, indicating that the new Tata Sierra will only be presented as an electric SUV. For the uninitiated, Sierra was Tata Motors’ first SUV, available exclusively with a 68bhp 2.0-liter diesel engine with 5-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive.

The adoption of an electric platform will have a lot of benefits for Sierra Tata. Thank to this new platform, a transmission tunnel is not necessary, which will make it a very spacious vehicle.

Tata Sierra Design

Tata Sierra EV concept takes Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design language and is based on the ALFAARC platform.

The Tata Sierra had a different and iconic layout of a three-door SUV with massive and stuck aspect glass panels for the rear passengers, the latter of which made the cabin experience airy.

However, the production version of the new Sierra will have a more conventional five-door design with 4 doors on the sides and a door on the rear.

This also makes it different from the Sierra Concept of the Auto Expo 2020, which had a unique four-door layout with a driver-side door and two passenger-side doors, just like the Hyundai Veloster.

The all-new Tata Sierra Electric will be one of the first commodities to be developed by the TPEML, the new subsidiary created by the Tata Motors to deal with the development and sale of electric-only models.

Tata Motors has already stated that it will produce 10 new electric vehicles over the next 5 years and has already invested 15,000 crore rupees as an investment in product development. The Tata Sierra will be an important step in this direction.

The development of the reincarnation of the Tata Sierra has already started. However, the SUV will not hit the market until 2025. Since the project is a central development, Tata Motors will take enough time to make sure there is no problem with the Sierra.

Considering the recent progress made by Tata Motors as a growing automaker, we can say that the Sierra will pave a new and successful path towards the future of electric mobility in India.
