Toyota unveiled the Toyota GR Corolla Hatchback on Thursday night in Long Beach, California. The GR is significantly more powerful than the normal, front-wheel-drive Corolla hatchback, thanks to all-wheel drive and a 300-horsepower turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. GR is an abbreviation for Toyota’s racing squad, Gazoo Racing. It only comes with one transmission option, a six-speed manual. The vehicle does not have an automatic transmission of any kind. Toyota president Akio Toyoda, an avid racer, was said to have been intimately engaged in the car’s development.

The Core and Circuit Editions will be available, with the latter including front and rear limited slip differentials for greater track performance. The LSDs are likewise optional on the Core, which serves as a blank canvas for customization.
