The electric crossover 2023 Toyota bZ4X from 2023 avoids clichés. It is not a paradigm or boundary-pushing innovation, nor is it a game changer. The BZ4X is an excellent car with a horrible name that helps Toyota fans transition to full electric power, but at the sacrifice of novelty. Beyond Zero is the meaning of the BZ portion of the name, and the BZ4X is the first electric in a line of upcoming BZs. Toyota hedged its EV risk by splitting development costs with Subaru and its virtually similar all-wheel-drive electric crossover, much as the experimental RAV4 EV produced with Tesla more than ten years ago.

The first mass-produced electric vehicle from the manufacturer is the 2023 Toyota bZ4X, which is also the sole EV the company currently sells. It’s a compact SUV, around the size of a RAV4, and it shares many similarities with the brand-new Subaru Solterra. Although this Toyota EV has some tempting features, it also falls short of what you might have anticipated given how long Toyota took to release it.
