{"id":8565,"date":"2022-09-29T06:24:32","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T00:54:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ev-carsinfo.com\/?p=8565"},"modified":"2022-09-29T06:24:32","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T00:54:32","slug":"sr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ev-carsinfo.com\/news\/sr\/","title":{"rendered":"2022 Zero SR Motorcycle unveiled with upgraded technology"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Zero unveiled its latest <strong>2022 Zero SR electric motorcycle\u00a0<\/strong>this morning, along with major announcements of new batteries and other tech upgrades to a gathering of reporters in Lower Manhattan this morning.\u00a0 The new Zero SR and updated battery\u00a0technology\u00a0mark the biggest update to\u00a0the Zero\u00a0line in years.<\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">2022 Zero SR Electric Motorcycle<\/h2>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first big reveal of the morning came in the form of a new battery for the Zero 2022 SR, SR\/F, and SR\/S e-bikes.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new battery\u00a0is\u00a0optionally\u00a0available\u00a014.4+ kWh or 15.6+ kWh, the \u201cplus\u201d indicating that the packs can effectively be unlocked by software\u00a0to\u00a0release\u00a0full capacity up to 17.3 kWh of capacity. This\u00a0on-demand\u00a0battery capacity\u00a0software upgrade\u00a0remembers\u00a0Tesla&#8217;s\u00a0software-limited\u00a0batteries and marks the first time this option has been offered in the electric motorcycle industry.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 17.3 kWh option is the largest battery offered\u00a0by Zero to\u00a0date and can be further\u00a0expanded\u00a0with\u00a0the addition of a Power Tank accessory.\u00a0This\u00a0option, which will be available next spring, replaces the glove\u00a0box\u00a0in the\u00a0fake\u00a0gas tank and instead increases the battery capacity to 20.9 kWh. The range of a Zero SR\/F\u00a0or SR\/S\u00a0with the Power Tank will be 227 miles (365 km) in the city and 113 miles (182 km) when\u00a0driving\u00a0at 70 mph (112 km\u00a0\/ h).<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although\u00a0the capacity of the\u00a0batteries\u00a0has\u00a0increased, the weight of the packages has actually decreased by about 6 pounds\u00a0(2.72 kg).\u00a0This\u00a0also\u00a0includes hardware additions such as cooling fans that upgrade the passive air cooling of previous generations to active air cooling.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Zero also unveiled its new Cypher III\u00a0+\u00a0operating system and smartphone app. New\u00a0software\u00a0enables\u00a0application-based\u00a0updates,\u00a0including increased battery capacity and other performance and feature upgrades. The new Cypher III\u00a0+\u00a0operating system will\u00a0be\u00a0standard on all 2022 SR\/F,\u00a0SR\/S, and\u00a0SR\u00a0bikes. The new model is built on the trellis frame of\u00a0the\u00a0flagship\u00a0Zero\u00a0and comes with\u00a0Zero&#8217;s\u00a0ZF7510 motor, first introduced on the Zero SR\/F. It\u00a0is software\u00a0stuck\u00a0on the 55 kW\u00a0SR. New technology unveiled this morning follows Zero&#8217;s recent summer launch of the new FXE platform, an urban electric motorcycle. lightweight designed for commuters. All of these prices come before federal and state incentives, which can add up to over $ 1,000 in savings.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new battery technology has been eagerly awaited, so it&#8217;s great to see Zero continue to increase capacity. The movement blocked by the software is interesting and I see arguments for and against the model.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On\u00a0the one hand,\u00a0this\u00a0allows riders to buy a higher\u00a0spec\u00a0bike for a\u00a0lower\u00a0price up front,\u00a0and then improve performance, speed, battery capacity, and other features later as\u00a0you go. as the funds\u00a0become available.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On\u00a0the other hand, if you never\u00a0plan\u00a0on\u00a0leveling\u00a0up, you&#8217;re walking around\u00a0with extra weight that you\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0really need.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then\u00a0again, if you never upgrade battery\u00a0capacity,\u00a0you\u00a0probably\u00a0aren&#8217;t\u00a0using the\u00a0upper\u00a0end of the battery or much of the\u00a0lower\u00a0end,\u00a0which means\u00a0your battery will likely last a\u00a0lot longer\u00a0in\u00a0operation using longer load ranges.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Maybe it&#8217;s\u00a0worth the extra dozen pounds\u00a0out\u00a0there.\u00a0The decision to move the SR to the SR\/F platform\u00a0is\u00a0also interesting. Again,\u00a0there are\u00a0pros\u00a0and\u00a0cons.
