MG Wuling Air electric car

According to recent reports, MG intends to launch an entry-level MG Wuling Air Electric Car in India based on the Wuling Air EV. The MG Wuling Air Electric Car (codenamed E230) from MG India is said to be built on the company’s Global Small Electric Vehicles (GSEV) platform. It will be modified to better suit the driving conditions in India. The E230 will retain the quirky 2-door body style of the MG Wuling Air EV. The Indian version is expected to get alloy wheels instead of the 12-inch steelies, as well as a new name. According to the report, MG Wuling Air EV will be equipped with a 39 BHP electric motor and a 20-25 kWh battery pack with a range of around 150 kilometres. Tata AutoComp will supply the battery. To justify the high price, MG intends to include a slew of features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and other connectivity features.

A new MG Wuling Air EV is being prepared for release in India. It has only two doors and is smaller than an Alto. We knew where to look because MG gets every car it sells in India from its Chinese parent company, SAIC Motor and its subsidiaries. The MG E230 micro-EV is actually a MG Wuling Air EV manufactured by the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture based on their GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) platform.

It was unveiled in Indonesia in June and is now officially available. MG is considering launching it in India as well. Surprisingly, the MG Hector sold in India is a rebadged Wuling Almaz. MG is likely to use the same tried-and-true method to launch this new small electric car in India.

The MG Wuling Air Electric Car has a 2.9-metre wheelbase and a 2,010mm wheelbase, making it about 400mm shorter than the Maruti Alto. The model sold in Indonesia gets 12-inch steel wheels, but the model headed here could get alloy wheels. Furthermore, this left-hand drive test mule appears to have a tailgate mounted spare wheel, which is not seen on the one sold overseas.

This MG Wuling Air EV will most likely be fully loaded by MG India. For infotainment and instrumentation, expect a dual-screen layout. We’ve learned that higher variants will include soft-touch materials as well as a healthy dose of wood and faux aluminium. MG India will target affluent households in big cities with this entry-level MG Wuling Air Electric Car, which could be a third or even fourth car.

MG Wuling Air Electric Car Interior & Launch

If MG does decide to launch it in India, they will face a difficult task. Product positioning will be critical in this case. If they market it to mainstream buyers as Mahindra did, it will most likely fail as well. However, if they market MG Wuling Air Electric Car as a third or fourth vehicle in one’s garage that is loaded to the gills with features, we could see a product like that sell in India.

Despite the car’s small dimensions, the interiors have a spacious feel thanks to the white and black colour scheme. The glass area is expansive, providing a panoramic view of the outside. The front seats can be lowered to gain access to the rear seats.

MG Wuling Air Electric Car Battery Pack

According to the report, Tata AutoComp, a domestic company, will supply the battery pack to MG Motor India. For the design, production, supply, and servicing of Li-ion battery packs for EVs in India, the Tata AutoComp has formed a joint venture with Chinese battery producer Gotion. The MG E230 for India will feature LFP cylindrical cells, just like the Tata Nexon. These cells are more suitable for Indian circumstances, more affordable, and more dependable.

It’s interesting that MG would choose the same Lithium Ferro Phosphate cells that Tata uses in its Nexon Prime and Tigor EVs. The future MG EV will compete against the incoming Mahindra Atom EV in terms of dimensions, even though it will be priced similarly to Tata’s.

The 2020 Auto Expo in January 2023 is most likely where the new MG Wuling Air Electric Car will be unveiled. In the first half of 2023, possibly by March, the new model will most likely be introduced.

In the upcoming months, more information about the MG Wuling Air EV will become public. MG Wuling Air Electric Car has a boxy exterior with a sizable glass area and all-around LED lighting. Overall, the shape resembles the now-discontinued Tata Nano.
